So, Jackson just turned two years old last month and it's now time for his first dentist appt. Off we went this morning to see how his pearly whites are doing....not good was the diagnosis.
His bottom two teeth both have cavities...already! I about cried when the dentist told me that. We brush every morning, every night and have since they first started coming in. He doesn't eat a load of sweets, so what's the deal.
The Dr. said it's just an sbsolute fluke. He said if kids don't take care of their teeth, then it's the top ones that get cavities first. Jackson's are in his bottom back teeth. Dr. seemed to believe that his little teeth never developed correctly and never got hard in the middle like they are supposed to. Thus, he has cavities in that space that's SUPPOSED to be hard, but is soft instead. ARGH!
So, August 23 is the date for two fillings. They said at this age it's a fight from beginning to end even with sedatives. I am so not looking forward to this. If they have to drill too much, he will have to have caps. Oh man, I sure hope not.
Here is a pic of his first dental appointment.

Tucker has the same problem with her baby teeth... she has 5 silver shiny caps. But now that he big girl teeth are coming in they are coming in with no soft spots. We now brush 3 times a day. I don't know if it will help ask about giving him gas and then the shots to numb him. It has worked for Tucker.
I will be thinking of you.
Miss You

oh lexie! i'm sorry! i hope the fillings are as pain free as possible for him.
Jake had cavities in the back ones like that and the pediatric dentist we saw said that particular type of cavity and decay is typically an indication of taking a lot of ear infections and antibiotics when they are infants. That is the cause of the teeth not developing fully. So sorry to hear that for little Jackson. I keep him in my thoughts. Let us know how it goes!
